Adding To Your Homes Decor With A Crystal Chandelier

Have you ever thought to yourself could I do more with my homes décor. What can I do to spruce up my kitchen or entry way that will make a large impact? Have you ever wondered if your homes décor is out of date and not with the latest trends and styles? Are you looking for away to change the look of a room without a lot of expense and hassle. Well here are a few simple things that you can do to update your home with very little expense and make a drastic change.

Two of the easiest ways to make a big change in your home is updating a few crucial pieces of lighting or a few large pieces of furniture. For example if you want to create a elegant feel to your home as family and guests enter. You can add a crystal chandelier to your entry way. This is a very dramatic way to make an impression with your home lighting.

The second easiest way to dramatically change look and feel of your décor is with your furniture. This can be done by adding some drapes or a new furniture piece such as a couch or chair. If you would not like to spend that much money you can have a recliner or couch recovered to give it a entirely new look.

With whatever route you decide to take keep it simple and choose items that will make a good impact. Antique pieces are a great way to add a unique look to your décor, as well as they can be a conversation starter. Some good examples of some unique antique items would be a grandfather clock, end tables, and home lighting, such as a lamp or chandelier

If you choose a chandelier it does not have to be a large elaborate piece. It can be a small and distinguished piece that will compliment your décor. Again a well placed crystal chandelier can have a huge impact on your design theme. They come in many different styles as well as sizes. Typically crystal chandeliers have been thought of as a more traditional lighting fixture. But this is not true. Many manufactures are making them in more modern designs.

Chandeliers are a small part of your overall design but they create such a dramatic effect on your home decor. For example, you think that the couch or table that you have had forever may need just some freshening up or recovering. By adding a new chandelier it can make everything feel new again.

To make your house look like it’s just been updated recently, you can add a chandelier. The best part about adding a chandelier is that you can spend a lot of money or very little money and make a huge impact on the feel of a room. You can also add different lighting to each room to freshen the up individually. The home lighting can be different from room to room and that is why it is so versatile.

decorate with chandeliers

There are many great ways to add style and sophistication to your home. Using chandeliers for you lighting is a great way to set a mood and design style in your home. With so many manufactures such as livex lighting making such a large variety of chandeliers. This can become a over whelming task. The first thing that you need to do is identify your style. You can do this by taking a few pictures of the room you are trying to decorate and head down to your local lighting showroom. This way you can visualize the chandelier you are looking at purchasing in the atomoshpere it is going to be set in. Here are several styles of chandeliers that you might look at.
Contemporary Chandeliers - When most people think of modern lighting, they picture recessed spot and accent lights and maybe some track lighting. If they do not consider a hanging lamp or two, the modern decorator may feel as if they moved into an art gallery where all the lighting is bright but far away. A chandelier in the entryway and another over the dining area can bring rich lighting down to people-level and can highlight modern style. Chrome starburst designs and cylindrical designs are both sleek, modern chandelier options.
Traditional chandeliers- Are probally the most type of chandeliers that people use in there design schemes. The tend to be very elegant with ornate designs and swooping scroll work. A traditional chandelier can also be elegant with a simple design as well.
Rustic Chandeliers- Many hanging lamps and chandeliers are designed with a more rugged look for today's single men. Antler chandeliers allow you to bring the hunting lodge home with you. A bent-branch chandelier would go well if you have even one bent-branch chair. Wood beam chandeliers with metal brackets may make you think of medieval castles, but current wood styles offer tailored designs as well as rough-hewn designs.
Tiffany Chandeliers - This style encompasses how many people currently decorate. And there are a bevy of chandelier designs that can fit in an tiffany-inspired décor. From chandeliers that use colored glass to free-form design, hanging lighting options abound. To find the style that suits you, shop around.
After you have identified your design style you will need to make sure that the chandelier that you choose with meet your lighting needs. Here are a few guidlines when it comes to lighting. You typically need 6 watts of light for every square foot in a room. If your chandelier is the only light source in a large room. You might want to consider using a few table lamps. These will add more light as well as a little more design flair to your room. Also you don't want to get a chandelier that is to big for the room and becomes the only focal point. You want a chandelier that will compiment your room and design style.

ways to light up your kitchen

One of the most Import things when it comes to your kitchen is your lighting. It helps you perform all the tasks such as cooking. There are several ways to light to light your kitchen for general lighting and task lighting.
The first thing you need to identify is what kind of lighting it is that you need in each particular area of your kitchen. Do you need task lighting or just general lighting. the first area we will identify is you bar or island. In this area you will need both general lighting as well as task lighting. This can be obtained in several ways the first is with a Island light. These are great because the spread the light over a long area and focus the downward for great task lighting. One thing that is also great about a Island light is that they can be very decorative like a chandelier to help spruce up your kitchen. Mini pendant lighting is a great way to also supply task lighting over your island. They great thing about mini pendant lighting is that it is fairly inexpensive and you can place these as close together or far apart as you would like.
The next area of your kitchen that we need to Identify is your dining area or nook. These areas would require more of a general light. This can be obtained with a small chandelier or a pendant light. These are great because they disperse the light instead of focus it on one area. A typical sized chandelier would be a 5-8 light chandelier. One rule of thumb that you want to follow with either one of these lighting options is that the light fixture should not be more than 2/3 the size of the table. It can make it look out of proportion.
Recessed can lighting has also become a great lighting tool in kitchens. These can be used for both types of lighting. For example if you place one directly over a kitchen sink it would be considered task lighting. If you spread them out over your kitchen layout it would be for more general lighting. Recessed can lighting is a very versatile product because there are so many variations of trims available that make the lights perform differently.
Another area that has become very popular to light is under your cabinets. This can be used to create task lighting or accent lighting depending on the placement of your lights. Many manufactures have made great products for this application that includes choices in xenon bulbs, and the latest technology in lighting led bulbs.
Last of all we should touch a little on accent lighting. This has become very popular in higher end kitchens for people who want to showcase a display cabinet or ad some ambiance to their kitchen. There are several ways to obtain this. One of these is with rope lighting that is tucked in the crown moulding of the cabinets or behind the wood word of frame. This can add beautiful high lights to your kitchen.

The Value Of Great Outdoor Lights

Why do people "miss the boat" when it comes to picking outdoor lights for their home? Maybe its not the same in other parts of the country, but in the state where I live homeowners don't seem to understand the importance of their choice's in outdoor lighting. The lights that are on the front of your home are the main design feature that welcomes visitors to your home, and this is especially true at night. Very seldom do I see a home where the outdoor lights are the correct size, style, or color for that home. As I have stated in other articles it looks as tho the homeowners ran out of money, and/or desire to shop when these final design elements were picked. Another problem that may exist is the homeowner is just accepting the builders standard lighting package and calling it good. Your exterior lighting deserves more attention.
If your visitors enter your property by means of a driveway leading up to your garage and then proceed to the front porch along a sidewalk, where the entrance door is located, you need to consider this important fact. The side lights on the garage (most often one on each side of the overhead door/doors) will be the first impression someone has of your home, and very importantly provide the light needed for visitors to park and exit their cars. The porch lights will be the second impression of your home. You want that first and second impressions to be "Wow". And you also want to provide a safe place for guest to park and a safe path to the front door. It is my observation, and professional opinion, that 80 percent of homes out there are using garage and porch lights that are two small. Most lighting companies offer this type of light in a small, medium, and large size. Most homes are using the small size where at least the medium size should have been used, and in many cases the large should be the choice. It is important to note that the medium and large size lights also have more bulbs, which provides more light. If you have a very large home some companies even offer an extra large and jumbo size.
When choosing exterior lights, especially on the front of your home, size matters. The goal should be 1-Provide enough light, 2-choose lights that compliment the scale of your home. Is it possible to go too large? Yes, and I have seen this once, I think. This would be my suggestion on how to get it right: get some card board (boxes work great), cut, paste, glue, tape, or whatever it takes to fabricated a shape similar to the lights you have in mind (Internet stores are great resource to use because they provide excellent pictures and dimensions for lights, and great values I might add), then tape the cardboard structures in the correct locations on the outside of the home. Next, walk across the street and evaluate, possibly even take some pictures, you might even get some friends or relatives input. If the mailman is driving by get his opinion, he/she looks at homes all day long. I would suggest starting with the large size, then repeat the process stepping down to the medium size and if necessary then the small size . There are some added benefits to going through this process - if you are struggling with what finish color to go with you can even paint the cardboard the correct colors, and it is also a great time to decide what the placement should be. Is this going to be a lot of work you ask? probably, but it will pay off when the first visitor to your home says WOW the front of your home is gorgeous. Another thing , don't be frugal with the garage lights and porch lights. Other than the foyer chandelier they may be the most important design element of your home. If you are going to be frugal with the exterior lights do it with the ones on the back of the house. Don't be afraid to choose a light that adds some style, just be careful that they don't clash with other design elements of the home. For example: don't choose an ultra modern style light when the house is English Tutor. Exterior lighting now comes in many finishes most of which are very beautiful and provides the lighting shopper with many options. The other day I drove by a home that had white lights on a white brick home. It honesty looked like a dirty spot on the brick, I had to look twice before realizing they were lights. Most designers will use a design board with the brick, stone, siding, window trim pieces, etc. attached while making the decision on finish color of lighting, and this works great. If the home owner is the designer then steal some of there tricks, it is good practice to follow. Painting the cardboard, as in the process above talked about is another great method. The important thing is to put some thought into it.
I have been pretty opinionated in this article so it shouldn't be any surprise when I point out now of my favorite exterior brands and collections. It is produced by Troy Lighting Company, and they have many beautiful collections to choose from. I honestly believe they have some of the most well thought out and designed exterior lights on the market. Probably not the least expensive, but you are for sure getting good quality and value. I love the "BrookField" collection. The rich oil rubbed bronze finish complemented with small amounts of red and amber stained glass. I can definitely see the post lamp PAR6905OB setting in the front yard of my home.
For the most part I wrote this article hoping to maybe guide, or inspire those people building a new home, but, in the process if I have made the person already setteled into their home walk across the street and evaluate the exterior lighting of there home, then great. I hope what you see makes you say WOW.

New House Building, Blunder

Are you building a new home, or having one built? Congratulations. There will be some very rewarding experiences to come, and some that can be very trying. This article is being written to hopefully guide you in an area that commonly has a dramatic impact on final outcome. How many of you have seen what could be a gorgeous home but seemed to be missing that finishing touch. There is is a very real possibility that that missing element was the lighting. Here is a very common scenario that many a new home owner has fallen into. Along the process of construction money gets spent on little options hear and there or possibly even additions that seem not to affect the overall budget to much. Before you know it the construction is winding down and it is time to start picking out those finishing items, like lighting. You quickly realize that you are left with a just small amount of money to purchase one of the most important design elements of the new home. You get on-line to search for lights and come to the realization that the money you have available is only sufficient for the least expensive lighting on the market. You convince yourself that its okay because you can always just install the lighting you don't really like, and certainly is not your first choice, and then replace it down the road. You move into your dream house and start living. Unfortunately the uncertainties of life take over and before you know it 20 years have passed before you able to replace those hideous lights. Because the lights are functional, but ugly, they are put at the bottom of the priority list. You may laugh at this scenario, but ask friends, neighbors, and relatives if it sounds familiar, they will confirm what is being written.
So how do you avoid this pitfall? By doing some upfront planning. First step - follow this advise - Just as soon as you get the financing arranged for that new home, set aside in a separate account if possible, the funds needed to purchase your lighting. At the very least have it written into the construction agreement what those funds should be, and very important, make sure it is close to being correct as possible. That requires doing some homework. Because other problems associated with building a new home may seem more important this probably will not be at the top of your priority list, right? Well, it should be. Make it a priority, you won't be sorry.
Second step - the second you have the construction plans in your hand start planning. The goal here is not to start purchasing lights but rather to plan for what is needed and calculating the cost involved. By having the plans you should be able to figure out what lights are needed in each room. If you are good on the computer start a spread sheet, or do it by hand. Include in this spreed sheet such things as: the room, size of the room, decorating style of the room, type of light, quantity of lights, cost, color, size of light etc. Some home builders even go to the extent of making there own set of scaled drawings then draw in the lights. You may just show a circle representing the light (to the correct scale). On elevation drawings you can even put in the height of lights. Some areas you may not be sure about and that's okay, the important thing is to become aware of what is required. Some areas will be very certain, for example: a chandelier in the foyer, a chandelier in the dining room, bathroom lights above the vanities, porch entrance lights, exterior lights on the side of the garage, etc. Third step - Now that you have an idea of the quantity and type of lights required start shopping, again its not necessary to purchase right now, as a mater of fact most designers will tell you to wait at least until the sheet rock is in place. Having the sheet rock in place gives you a spacial relationship that can't be seen in drawings, or even when only the framing is done. Your goal at this stage is to find what styles, and possibly even what brands interest you, and the associated cost involved. Work up an estimated cost for each room, then calculate a total. you now know what needs to be left at the end of construction. If your budget will not cover your taste then you at least have some time to make adjustments. You may be able to save a little on the side, watch for sales, shop other brands, or even cut luxuries in other areas. At the very least you won,t be in a position where you feel that you have to rush to make a decision because the contractor is breathing down your neck to get an answer, remember that the contractor wants to get this job finished off so he can collect his money and move onto another job.
If this is your first home it may be hard to understand what an impact lighting can have on the presentation of your home. I have lived in the same home for 30 years and just recently replaced the lighting. We did not run out of money at the end of construction but rather under estimated the budget required for lighting. So we settled for what we could get and have begrudgingly lived with it ever sense. Do don't believe we ever had a visitor comment on our lights in 30 years. There is a Quoizel light we have admired for some time and were sure it belonged in our home. Since installing it we very seldom go a day without someone commenting on the beauty of that light. It has a striking appearance and is now the focal point of our home and welcomes all our visitors. This was not an expensive light nor very large but fit the space and style of our home perfectly. See Quoizel Lighting, Isabella Collection, part number IS5009IB.
The goal of this article was not to get your to go out and find the most expensive light and/or to convince you to increase your lighting budget, but rather to get you to plan ahead, know what funds you have to work with, don't compromise on those funds and short yourself in such an important design feature as lighting. I wish you the very best in building your dream house, it will be a great experience.

Navigating the "Lighting The Web" On-Line Store

Recently I had one of our Ebay customers wanting to know how to get to our on-line store, and find a table lamp, in a specific brand. She did not have the part number of the lamp, but, she did know the brand name and the collection it belonged to. I thought it would be a good time to let all of our customers know the process of getting to our web site and navigate through it.

Question:
How do I get to your web site?
Answer:
The two most common methods are 1. Open the web browser that you most commonly use (google, yahoo, aol, comcast, etc.), type in "Lighting The Web" (all small case is fine) in the search window and press the search or enter button. The first 4 or 5 site listings will be the sponsored links. This means these companies are paying to be at the top of the page. You will rarely find us in this section. Why you ask? Because then we would have to add those extra cost into the product cost, which means you would have to pay more. We are trying our best to provide our customers with the absolute lowest prices. Where you will find us is at the top of the un-sponsored links list. Left mouse click on the highlighted name and our store front will appear. Method 2. At the very top of you browser page you will find a window displaying the current web page address. If you single left mouse click on the address currently in this window it will become high lighted. After it is high lighted, type in http://www.lightingtheweb.com/, and enter. The Lighting The Web home page will appear. The nice thing about using method 2 is that the address is remembered and the next time you want to return to our store you just use the scroll bar to the right of the window and choose our address. Method 3. The easiest method. Since you are already reading this blog just left mouse click on the highlighted wording in the paragraph above.

Question:
Now that I am at your store front how do find the light I am looking for.
Answer:
Here you may have some options. How you navigate to a specific product will usually depend on what information you may already have. For example: Do you know the type of light needed, the brand, the collection, the color, or maybe the part number? Below I have given the answers to the most frequently asked questions and also given examples.

Question:
How can I browse all brands of chandeliers,
Answer:
In the left side of our home page you will see tabs in list form. The top part of the list breaks down the product by Brand. If you scroll down you will find a list with the heading "shop by "type". Left mouse click on the tab "chandeliers". A new screen will pop up giving you additional options. One of the options will be "view all chandelier lighting". This will provide you with many many pages to sort through, which might be good if you are not really sure about style, color, or size, but more than likely you will see some options that will help you narrow the search. You might click on brass chandeliers which would bring up a new page with every brand of brass chandeliers. You now have narrowed it down to 5 pages of product. Still too much? Narrow the search more by choosing the number of lights in the chandelier. You can do this by choosing one of the sub-categories at the top of the page. Choose 13-16 and you have narrow the selection down to 4 lights. This is as far as you can go, the end. You are now 4 pages deep into our store. To get back out you can press the back button on you browser 4 times, or click on the home link found on every page, just under the Lighting The Web logo.

Question:
I have seen a brand that I like, and even the collection but I am not sure what types of lights are available within this collection. What do I do?
Answer:
Let's say that you were looking through a magazine and saw the picture of a beautiful bathroom light from Capital Lighting that belong to their River Crest Collection. You are interested in finding out if the collection also had a chandelier and pendant light to match. You will be able to find this information by following these steps. First-Choose "Capital Lighting Fixtures" from the left side menu tabs or choose the Capital Lighting Logo in the "Shop By Brand" section beneath the 4 large promotional pictures on the front page. A new window will open giving you the options of choosing "View All Capital Lighting Fixtures" or choosing fixtures by "type". Click on the View All Option. Another new window will open giving you the option to choose a collection with-in the Capital Brand. Click on the River Crest Collection. You will now be able to view all of the products available in this collection. By clicking on one of the products you will be able to see additional details about this product and you will also have the option of viewing a larger image. For example choose "Capital Lighting Fixtures River Crest Collection Twelve Light Chandelier With A RUSTIC IRON Finish 3602RI-125" In addition to the expanded details page you have the option to add this item to your shopping cart. Along the right side of the screen will be another menu where you can view and add coordinating products to your shopping cart.
